Pokemon’s Greninja, Kingdra promo cards remain solid Shrouded Fable deals

The Pokemon Trading Card game’s latest special set, Shrouded Fable, was set to release in early August with relatively little fanfare. That is, until Pokemon revealed a pair of instantly popular promo cards.

More than a month later Greninja and Kingdra are living up to the hype. Keep in mind that neither of these arts have yet to be released in Japanese; should that happen later, it could dull the shine on their English counterparts.

However, both Greninja and Seadra are carrying plenty of value across various marketplaces even as sealed versions of their collections remain available at $29.99 MSRP.

Here’s a closer look at why these cards — and perhaps multiple copies of both — would make a strong addition to your collection.

Greninja ex – 132 – SV: Scarlet & Violet Promo

The current generation of collectors were already evidencing Greninja’s popularity by making him the Twilight Masquerade chase card, which is holding a market value near $275. Pokemon will also release a GameStop-exclusive Greninja Ultra Premium Collection on November 1.

The Shrouded Fable promo is both an easy and worthwhile pickup amid Greninja’s big year. TCGplayer listed the card this week as its No. 1 in demand/understocked Pokemon product, which they say “we calculate … by factoring market price, current inventory and recent demand trends.”

Promo greninja’s initial graded versions are also starting to appear. The last three eBay auction sales prices for PSA 10s: $175.23, $167.50 and $180.50 — again, for a promo card that’s still readily available on your local Best Buy’s shelves.

Kingdra ex – 131 – SV: Scarlet & Violet Promo

Kingdra has played second fiddle to Greninja due to their simultaneous release. However, this is an illustration for the ages that could similarly lead to upward mobility over time.

Kingdra’s TCGplayer price chart is more in line with what you’d expect from a promo card early in its life cycle. Market value has steadily decreased since release, but two metrics signal longterm payoffs.

That same new TCGplayer listing of in demand/understocked Pokemon product ranked Kingdra at No. 4. People can’t get enough of this card, and PSA 10s are selling at more than 10 times the raw price. The three latest eBay auctions for them ended at $102.50, $112.50 and $102.50.
