Pokemon 151 set’s rarest cards rising in value a year after release
Pokemon 151 is nearing its one-year anniversary on the market since a September 22, 2023, release. And aside from initial peaks, a number of its rarest cards are valued higher now than ever.
The Scarlet & Violet set shows all the signs of continuing upswings when supply is short. However, collectors are growing wary of when it will get a proper reprint to dilute this spike, especially after recent Pokemon 151 booster bundle restocks.
In the meantime, TCGplayer market prices for sealed Pokemon 151 products are on the rise. TCGplayer lists the Ultra-Premium Collection ($119.99 MSRP) at $138; an Elite Trainer Box (MSRP $49.99) at $78; and booster bundles (MSRP $28.99) at $41.
More than a lone chase card or two are pushing those figures, too.
Collectors have primarily sought out the Special Illustration Rare Charizard, which carries at $123 market price at TCGplayer. But similar to Evolving Skies and its talisman card, Umbreon VMAX, 151’s Charizard includes accessories. Evolving Skies featured myriad pricy Eveelutions, the same as Pokemon 151 stars illustrations of the original starters’ lines.
There’s reason to believe Pokemon 151 sealed and single prices could eclipse Evolving Skies over time, too. Evolving Skies is a standard set with booster boxes, whereas 151 is a special set. 151 also brought some of the millennial demographic — and its grownup money — back into the hobby.
The 2024 holiday season should provide clarity on a potential reprint. Without one, collectors holding Pokemon 151 are in for a wild climb.
Here’s a look at where the Pokemon starters and their evolution lines stand in value at the one-year mark with charts via TCGplayer.
