See Pokemon’s top 8 Charizard cards gaining the most value
Charizard cards — the Pokemon Trading Card Game’s original chase — remain just as popular some 25 years after the first iteration hit the market.
That’s proven in TCGplayer’s latest list of 100 cards climbing the most in value over the past month. Charizard cards appear eight times, more than any other Pokemon, with the report including near mint copies of cards with at least five sales from August 24-September 22.
Somewhat surprising is the Base Set Charizard card’s continued climb. It ranked No. 3 overall on TCGplayer’s top 100 list behind only Evolving Skies’ Umbreon VMAX and Sun and Moon Ultra Prism’s full art Lille.
Pricing is generally more stable for vintage cards than their modern counterparts. Plus, as a number of streamers show, there’s still plenty of Base Set products continuing to be opened.
Charizard cards, though, seem to have eternal staying power. The big, fiery lizard ranked No. 4 in Pokemon’s official vote — conducted via Google — of the most popular characters back in 2020. More recently, Charizard illustrations became the most valuable cards in two Scarlet & Violet special sets, 151 and Paldean Fates.
TCGplayer assembles this price fluctuation data to give sellers the best information available when pricing cards in its marketplace. For the collector, perhaps it’s some added context for what to buy now or hope for a price cut later.
